Connection between Radial and Ulnar Nerves at Humeral Level And Its Clinical Significance: A Cadaveric Case Report International Journal of Morphology

Variations of the terminal branches of the brachial plexus in the upper limb are abundant and frequently have been reported. But connection between its radial and ulnar nerves at humeral level is very rare. During routine dissection of the right arm of a 75-year-old male cadaver in the Department of Anatomy of Birjand University of Medical Sciences (BUMS), in Iran, we observed a connection between radial and ulnar nerves, and from the literature reviewed, we found only two cases that had been reported previously, one of them was unilateral and the other bilateral. Awareness of such variations are very important for surgeons and diminish the possible complication of regional anesthesia and surgical procedures, hence, we decided to report it.

Dorsal Digital Branch of the Thumb: An Anatomical Study International Journal of Morphology

The level of origin of digital branch to thumb (DBT) of superficial branch of radial nerve (SBRN) and its relationship to brachioradialis muscle tendon (BRT) and its fascial sheath (FS) were studied on both sides of upper extremities of 50 cadavers (n=100). The DBT of SBRN originated in the middle third of forearm in 3 cases (3%), distal third of forearm in 10 cases (10%) and in wrist and dorsum of hand in 87 cases (87%). All cases having origin in the middle third of forearm and half of the cases having origin in the distal third of forearm were closely related to BRT or its FS. Multiple Variations of Extensor Muscles of Forearm in Relation to the Radial Nerve: a Case Report and Review International Journal of Morphology

During routine dissection in the Department of Anatomy, multiple variations of forearm muscles in relation to the radial nerve and its branches were observed on the right side of a 34 year old male cadaver. Brachioradialis close to its origin was receiving muscle fibers from the brachialis and the radial nerve was passing in between them. Extensor carpi radialis brevis was absent and the extensor carpi radialis longus was giving two tendons in the second compartment of extensor retinaculum before its insertion while passing deep to the abductor pollicis longus. Multiple Variations of the Branches of the Brachial Plexus with Bilateral Connections between Ulnar and Radial Nerves International Journal of Morphology

During routine dissection of the upper limbs of a Caucasian male cadaver, multiple variations of the branches of the brachial plexus were observed. On the left side, the musculocutaneous nerve was absent and the muscles of the anterior compartment of the arm were innervated by the median nerve. The median nerve was also formed from three roots viz; two from the lateral and one from the medial cord of the brachial plexus. On the right side, the musculocutaneous nerve contributed a long communicating branch to the median nerve in the distal half of the arm. The radial nerve is a terminal branch of the brachial plexus that innervates the entire posterior compartment of the upper limb. Researches have shown that the branches can contribute to innervation of the muscles from the anterior compartment of the arm. This study sought to identify branches of radial nerve for brachialis and coracobrachialis muscles and its clinical value during surgery. Dissection was performed in 60 arms, from 30 corpses selected from the Human Anatomy Laboratories of Universidade Estadual de Ciências da Saúde de Alagoas (UNCISAL).
